The fine wines of Linqiong have carried their fragrance for a thousand years. On Oct. 15, heads and reporters of overseas Chinese-language media organizations taking part in the “Journey Through China · 2026 Overseas Chinese-Language Media Trip to Sichuan” visited Yuanwozi Winery in Qionglai, and amid mountains, waters and woodlands and the mellow aroma of earthenware jars they experienced for themselves the distinctive charm of Qiong wine’s heritage and innovation.

Yuanwozi Winery sits next to the national 5A-level Mount Tiantai scenic area and close to the Wenjing River, the source of Qiong wine, and enjoys exceptional natural and ecological resources. Covering more than 800 mu, the winery integrates the growing of grain for raw materials, displays of brewing techniques, the aging of wine in earthenware jars in the forest, French-style tastings and homestay-style wellness retreats, making it one of China’s rare experiential baijiu wineries.

In developing its offerings, the winery presents the complete “past and present” of a glass of baijiu: from the fields where the raw grain is grown, to displays and hands-on experiences of the brewing process, and on to the years of aging as the wine matures in earthenware jars in the forest. It combines the romantic style of French-style tastings with the relaxed mountain living of homestay-style wellness retreats, offering visitors an immersive baijiu culture experience that brings together sightseeing, tasting and accommodation.

According to the winery, Yuanwozi was formerly one of the earlier private baijiu enterprises established in Qionglai and has been passed down through two generations over 40 years. Before its transformation it supplied base liquor to major famous Chinese liquor brands. Site selection and planning began in 2012 and construction was completed in 2018, spanning six years, during which a number of master designers took part in the design and construction of the winery and dozens of baijiu experts offered valuable opinions and suggestions.
