The 2026 Overseas Chinese Media Aba Tour, themed “Landscapes of Tibetan and Qiang, Shared Appreciation,” was launched in Chengdu on the evening of Oct. 9. Hosted by the Sichuan Overseas Friendship Association and organized by the Sichuan Branch of China News Service, the event brings together 20 heads and reporters of overseas Chinese-language media from around the world, who will embark on an in-depth journey across the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture and, with their cameras and pens, tell the world the vivid story of Aba’s high-quality development.
The 2026 Overseas Chinese Media Aba Tour is launched in Chengdu. Photo by Wang Lei.Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture lies on the southeastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, in the northwest of Sichuan Province. As an important ecological barrier and water-conservation area in the upper reaches of the Yangtze and Yellow rivers, it recorded a GDP of 60.119 billion yuan in 2025. Home to spectacular natural scenery, the prefecture has since ancient times been a place where multiple ethnic groups live together, gradually forming a distinctive regional culture over its long history. The development of Aba is, in essence, a history of ethnic exchanges, interaction and integration — a history of unity and progress.
At the launch ceremony, Zhu Yong’ou, director of the Sichuan Provincial Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and vice president of the Sichuan Overseas Friendship Association, said in his address that he hopes the overseas Chinese media representatives will go to Aba, walk its land and see it with their own eyes — to feel for themselves the beauty of its landscapes, the charm of its culture and the changes brought by development, and, with a professional perspective and vivid writing, tell the world the true story of China and of Sichuan, and the true story of development in China’s ethnic regions.
“Every visit to Sichuan leaves a deep impression on me. I am very much looking forward to this trip to Aba, to experience the local culture and the development of its industries at first hand,” said Li Mao’e, editor-in-chief of the World Chinese Newspaper of the Republic of Korea. She noted that she will spread the story through multiple channels, including bilingual reporting and short videos, in the hope that more overseas Chinese and friends abroad will come to know Aba and fall in love with Sichuan.
The event will run until Oct. 14. During the trip, the overseas Chinese media delegation will visit nearly 20 interview sites in Mao County, Li County, Ma’erkang City, Jinchuan County, Xiaojin County and Wenchuan County of Aba Prefecture, looking at and reporting on local achievements in rural revitalization, the integration of culture and tourism, ethnic unity, and the high-quality development of distinctive industries.
